I have a similar story... the first five years of my life, my family lived in New York City. My father was a mechanic. When my younger brother was born, my parents decided they wanted to move back to Michigan where they both were from. My senior year in high school, after living in Michigan for 11 years, we returned to New York City for a Thanksgiving vacation. Two strange instances occurred: 1) Our name was still on the buzzer to our old apartment. 2) While standing waiting for the subway, a man shouted, "Karl?!". Karl is my father... they knew each other through my dad's former job. Small world.

It's very surprising some of the places where you can find people you know, even when you're thousands of miles away from home. I've visited Mexico twice (including Cancun); some of the places are truly amazing and beautiful, including the pyramids. Mexico City, though, is different story.
